Hello, my name is Daniel Ratley. I am a high school student at Grayson County High School in Grayson County, Kentucky. I created the Healthy Helpings Campaign to combat food insecurity and help people with special dietary needs while inspiring volunteerism among the younger population of Grayson County.
I first learned about the special dietary needs of the food pantry clients during the summer of 2024. Debbie Childress, the director of the Grayson County Alliance Food Pantry, a place where I have volunteered for over seven years, pointed out to me that although the food pantry serves thousands of people in a year, many dietary needs are not met.
Currently, I am working on expanding the Healthy Helpings Campaign across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. To support this goal, I have received the Drs. Mody $1000 Service Learning Grant from the Gifted Center at WKU. With this grant, I will work with Mrs. Childress to educate, host healthier choice food drives, and promote volunteerism.
